Welcome! My name is Jelle Zwart, and I’m a fourth year International Business student at the University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam. On this page you can find my thesis proposal for Tesla in the Netherlands. I couldn't help myself but apply to you this way. It will be the concluding document for my study, and I want it to be something useful for a company that wants to replace the ways we currently consume energy. I’m especially interested in the application of the new Powerwall, your Social Media usage, and the current trend of Corporate Social Responsibility. In the video below you can find an excerpt of my proposed research topics, which can hopefully help you in your overall mission and with accomplishing your objectives.
Over the last five years I’ve started three completely different types of business, which taught me the hard way that the quality of your content is very important. Because of this, I’ve chosen three research topics (and completed one) that emphasise communication. I believe that in this field my experience will be put to the best use. Any of these, however, can be adjusted or done completely differently.
For which markets in the Netherlands is the Tesla Powerwall an attractive investment, and what information should be available to improve the customers purchasing decision?
In which ways can Tesla use Social Media to achieve its overall objectives?
Corporate Social Responsibility
How can Tesla make optimal use of the current Corporate Social Responsibility trend (Tesla can show off its products fully integrated applications while helping other people)?
Main research question:
For which markets in the Netherlands is the Tesla Powerwall an attractive investment, and what tools can Tesla use to provide adequate information to the customer for a well informed purchasing decision?
1. What is the current situation of the Dutch energy market?
I. Who are the main energy suppliers that play an important role in the Dutch energy market? II. What does the self generating/providing energy market look like in the Netherlands, and which trends do we see? III. What does the household segment look like? IV. What does the business consuming segment look like?
2. How does the Dutch energy regulation effect the purchasing decision of the Tesla Powerwall?
I. What does the scenario look like right now (subsidies, net metering)? II. What does the future scenario look like?
3. In which scenario would it be attractive for a household to invest in a Tesla Powerwall? Analysing six different scenarios in the Netherlands.
I. Determining the attractiveness of the investment with the following economic parameters: Rate of Return (IRR), the Profitability Index (PI), the Discounted Payback Period (DPBP), and the Net Present Value (NPV). II. Are there any alternative methods for households to finance the Tesla Powerwall?

As mentioned earlier, the heart of my experience lies in entrepreneurship. Of the three businesses I’ve started, I only still operate in one. The company is called Simply Purple and is located in Amsterdam-West. We help small-sized companies and artists with their marketing, websites, logo’s, social media campaigns, and everything else to sharpen their message to the outside world.
During my English course this last semester, we had the opportunity to compare Tesla’s advertising method with the more traditional advertising methods, with the best cases actually being send to Tesla. Here I found, what an interesting company Tesla actually was. Luckily, we did not only win the case but I also found that I really want to do my thesis at Tesla for a very important reason. Your company has a shared company mission, which I very much admire. And I would love to have the opportunity to experience this firsthand.
